Home Free: August 2018

We closed on our home in Sutton, MA on Friday 3Aug and then went to U-Haul in Leominster, MA to rent the 26’ truck.

The truck was massive, we continued packing things in the house and we sold more furniture while packing. We started to pack the truck on  Saturday, 4Aug when it started to pour and phone was going off with Weather Alerts for tornadoes and flash flooding. Karen Bissonnette stopped by on her way home from her night shift. We moved the crates to the truck as the worst of the storm hit. The humidity was awful with temperatures in the 80’s.

We finished packing Sunday morning, we thought we would be done by 10:00 but actually finished by 11:15. Once we finished it was time to hit the road. Ready to head out with Steve and Harriett outside we start to move then sunk in the yard just before the rear hit the pavement. The Sutton house was trying to hold on... called a tow truck and landscaper.

By 12:30 we are on the road heading to Gram’s in Michigan. We set the GPS for Conneaut, OH 8.8 hours to Gary and Tom, we arrive at 23:00. We are greeted by Gary flashing a flashlight for us to meet at the first driveway break and Wayne takes the Audi to the main driveway. We sleep in an awesome Coleman camper for a peaceful, much needed sleep.

On Monday we set our sites for Alto, MI destination a little over 5 hours. We had at least 4 server thunderstorms on our way out. Once we get to Gram’s she is out on the porch smiling and waving at us. Great welcome.

We start unpacking a little that night until we were completely exhausted and crash. The next morning Keith is already outside starting to unpack at 4:30 am. We start to unload and finish before 11:00 am. Get to U-Haul to return the truck on time, with the tank back to where it was when we received it.

The garage is packed to almost busting. We work to get things in the basement to get the new home set up for comfort.

Tuesday was a day of finishing the downstairs.  Gram loved it. We are happy with the results. Feels great to get that done and comfy.

Wednesday, Gram was talking about selling the Explorer. We post it and sold it within 30 minutes just after Gram left to play golf with Mozelle and Judy.  We are still moving items out of the garage and emptying more boxes. We hire Mitten Movers to move the large heavy dining room into Gram’s dining room.

Thursday, here they are two burly good looking guys with huge guns ready to pick up the furniture and move it, along with a mattress and box spring to the second floor and set up the granite bench all complete is a little over 30 minutes. What a God send!  Our backs could not take another minute of moving the huge pieces of furniture. Check out Thumbtack app for local vendors to hire for any work you need, they have reviews and you can chat in the app to discuss price and needs.

We kept up with moving and adjusting the boxes in the unfinished basement and in our ‘bungalow’ (as Gram calls it).  Cleaned out the garage, now can have both cars in the garage.
