Home Free Global Nomads: Destination Florida January 2020

We spend most of the month in Fort Myers with Gram at the Colonial Country Club, while she becomes a snowbird for the first time.  We check-in and spend many days enjoying the beautiful sunny, warm weather by the pool.

Good morning sunshine from Colonial Country Club
We spent many days at the RV dealer between getting the new hot water system and installing the solar on the roof.  Keith and I worked along with the technician to get the installation complete. I was on the roof preparing it for the install, while Keith was working on the electrical portion so it was all connected properly.

The panels have been tested and ready for installation. One is glued and curing for install.

Roof is clean and ready to go
All the panels are on the roof, we will have 410W when they are completely connected when all the parts are installed
We could not drive the RV after the install to allow the glue to cure overnight. Our friend Greg, picked us up at the dealer and we went out to dinner.  The next morning he stopped by with bagels for us.

We had a deadline to get the install completed so we could head to the Tampa Super RV Show on 15Jan to 19Jan. So after spending 4 days at the dealer, we left for the RV show and camped for 4 days.

We made it to the Florida State Fairgrounds for one of the largest RV shows in the country
Welcoming crew to take us to our spot near the horse barns but really close to the show.
We are there before the gates are open to the public, after this the show was packed with people every day.  The 2020 SuperShow was represented from every major RV manufacturer, and hundreds of supplier and accessory exhibitors in the main halls. This years attendance was higher than the 2019 74,286.
The grounds were all lit up at night, our walk towards the evening events
Ready to camp for the next 4 nights.

The Fairgrounds are huge and we filled our days checking out other brands, meeting the people from Leisure Travel Van and vendors.
Home sweet home for a few days

Leisure Travel Van group for Florida, Flamingles dinner meeting. 18 rigs parked at Bass Pro Shops

We met some really nice people and two other first time couples. We found out we were 4 rigs up from John and Kathy, who own a Triple E Regency Grand Touring camper. We plan to meet them again in the future. (Triple E is the parent company for Leisure Travel Vans)

Josh and JP, our Florida Roomies stopped on Saturday to join us for the day. We enjoyed spending the day with them as we walked around the grounds on a very hot day.  The attendance kept rising during the day. The suppliers area got very crowded but entertaining for people watching. They joined us that evening for the entertainment provided to the RVers that camped on site.

After the Tampa show we head to Hudson, FL to visit family for a few days before heading back to Fort Myers.  We checked the roof our RV and found that one of the 100W panels came off the roof.  We already had to go back to the dealer to finish the install.

We spent more time with Gram and her sister, Patty (who arrived while we were there).  While they spent time at the theater, we went to San Carlos Bay Bunche Beach Preserve with Greg for a gorgeous day.

San Carlos Bay - Bunche Beach Preserve is a 718 acre beach and mangrove forest preserve with a variety of recreational opportunities to enjoy including: Bird Watching, Canoe/Kayak Launch, Canoeing/Kayaking, Fishing, Hiking (Boardwalk), Nature Study/Photography, Picnic Area, Swimming and Sun Bathing.Step back in time visiting San Carlos Bay- Bunche Beach Preserve, one of the few natural beaches framed with native vegetation and mangrove tunnels to explore by kayak or canoe. In 2010, public beach facilities were completed & opened with ADA parking, restrooms, fishing piers, kayak ramp, picnic tables, and a small boardwalk overlooking Rock Creek.

The month in Fort Myers flew by so quickly, we have made new friends and acquaintances along the way. Found new beaches to spend fun in the sun.
